Brenda Yost, Psy. D.

Counselor Summary

Hello! I’m Brenda!

Psy.D.

Dr. Brenda Yost, a licensed psychologist, has been in private practice at Bethlehem Counseling Associates since May 2005. Brenda is skilled at conceptualizing and treating complex cases, involving physical and mental health disorders, family issues, and situational stressors. She provides clients with useful community resources and coordinates treatment with client’s medical providers. Brenda’s theoretical approach is eclectic because she uses the most appropriate counseling techniques based on research and practice to meet clients’ needs.

Brenda’s experience includes inpatient, partial hospitalization, and outpatient services with children, adolescents, and adults. After completing her master’s degree, Brenda worked five years for KidsPeace Hospital conducting individual and family counseling with children ages 5-13. She also performed psychological assessment under the supervision of a licensed psychologist for KidsPeace Hospital’s psychology department.

Brenda completed her predoctoral and postdoctoral internships at Lenape Valley Foundation’s outpatient and partial hospitalization programs. She facilitated therapy groups at adult and geriatric partial hospital programs. Some groups included anxiety management, cognitive awareness, coping skills, symptom management through art, problem solving, personal strengths, and reminiscent therapy. After Brenda earned her doctorate, she was employed by Lenape Valley Foundation for two years. In outpatient, she performed individual therapy and led two outpatient therapy groups: a problem solving group for individuals with schizoaffective disorder and a transitions group for older adults.

For three years after earning her doctorate, Brenda was an adjunct professor for Chestnut Hill College’s Counseling and Human Services graduate program. She instructed courses on eating disorders and psychological assessments.

Brenda’s warm, caring, and engaging style is an asset to her creating a safe environment for her clients. She approaches each client with skill, compassion, and respect. She displays a good sense of humor, professionalism, and genuine interest in the psychological needs of clients.

Clinical Orientation

  • I use an integrative model of therapy which emphasizes what a person needs right now to improve his or her situation. This may include a psychodynamic approach, CBT, DBT, person-centered work, relaxation exercises and mindfulness. One size does not fit all and a person’s needs will change as therapy progresses.
