Jody Gilvary

Counselor Summary

Jody Gilvary is a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Pennsylvania. She earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology from Cedar Crest College and her Master of Science Degree in Clinical and Counseling Psychology from Chestnut Hill College.

In 2003 her experience began providing education and support to new parents through the Early Head Start program. At that same time, she took an interest in volunteer work as a domestic violence advocate with Turning Point, receiving training through Pennsylvania Coalition Against Domestic Violence (PCADV) and remained an active volunteer for 10 years primarily working with children.  Her experience continued to grow as she worked in many capacities supporting children and families; which include working in foster care, family- based therapy and other in-home programs, community education, acute and school based partial hospitalization programs and the hospital setting. Jody has also worked behind the scenes in administrative positions making clinical decisions, however she finds herself gravitating to what she enjoys most, direct service.

Jody values the importance of individuality and is invested in the wellbeing of others to achieve their full potential despite past trauma and obstacles. She believes the counseling process begins first and foremost with the therapeutic relationship; she wants clients to feel comfortable and safe enough to be themselves. This is reciprocated to clients as she, herself, is naturally warm, nurturing and genuine.  Jody doesn’t necessarily prescribe to one theory in particular but takes an eclectic approach focusing on the individual person and what brings them to counseling.  Jody enjoys being creative in her approach, especially with children and teens, using play, art, music and mindfulness techniques.
